A teenager was doing donuts in his SUV when he slammed into two students walking together in a school parking lot, Texas officials said.

The incident happened at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Deer Park High School, KPRC reported.

In video taken at the school, the students can be seen walking in the busy lot when an SUV suddenly appears in the frame and crashes into them head on, sending them flying, KPRC reports.

The 17-year-old driver was arrested at the scene on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, media outlets reported.

The driver, who is an 11th-grade student at the school, appeared in court the next day, KTRK reported. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is required to wear an ankle monitor.

According to the outlet, the boy told officers that he was trying to show off by doing donuts when he hit the students, launching them about 20 feet in the air, officials said.

The injured students are girlfriend and boyfriend, KHOU reported. While it’s unclear what injuries they suffered, both have been released from the hospital.

The girl’s stepmother said her boyfriend pushed her out of the way, taking the worst of the impact himself, the outlet reported.

Deer Park is a suburb in far east Houston, roughly 20 miles from the city’s downtown.
