Boom ‘heard and felt’ for miles after house explodes, 6 injured, TX cops say

Six people were injured after a house explosion that was felt and heard for miles in Austin, Texas officials say.
The two-story home in Austin’s far north side exploded and collapsed before noon on Sunday, April 13, the fire department told KTBC.
Officials say a firefighter suffered minor injuries at the scene and the people pulled from the ruined structure are being treated, the station reported.
In a news briefing streamed by KVUE, officials said six people were injured. Two suffered critical injuries and one had serious injuries, and all three were in the main home or a secondary home near it.
It’s not clear what caused the explosion, but it shocked area residents far away from the site.
“We are aware of the loud ‘boom’ that was heard and felt throughout the city,” police in the Austin suburb of Cedar Park said on X, formerly Twitter. “We received reports that there was an explosion but it was in the Austin area.”
Firefighters extinguished several small fires in the vicinity of the explosion, officials said. Several nearby homes were damaged, including one that partially collapsed, KXAN reported. The house that exploded is completely destroyed.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation by the Travis County Fire Marshal.
There was no natural gas service to the home, officials said, adding that it had recently been constructed.
