An accused drunk driver was traveling the wrong way when he crashed into a family of four, killing a mother and her son, Texas authorities say.

Michael Anthony Arguijo, 46, is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter following the Monday, March 24, crash on Interstate 45, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said Arguijo was driving a Ford F-150 the wrong direction at about 12:45 a.m. and struck a Mitsubishi Outlander head-on. The Outlander went on its side, striking another car.

A 33-year-old woman and 9-year-old boy in the Outlander were taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said. They were identified in a GoFundMe as Brittany Munive and DJ Munive.

“Brittany lived for her children. She made sure they made it to every event and had everything they needed,” according to the GoFundMe. “DJ was your normal 9-year-old. He loved riding his dirt bike, baseball, and hassling his older sister.“

Two others — father Dario Munive and daughter Mila Munive — suffered critical injuries, police said. They have a “long road to recovery,” loved ones said.

The Munive family was coming home from a softball tournament for one of the children when they were involved in the crash.

Mila had just competed in a softball tournament in Dallas and her team won the championship.

The team said it has received an “outpouring of love and support from across the country.”

Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare told KHOU the alleged actions by Arguijo were “senseless.”

“When you have an entire family, who effectively is, is destroyed because of the selfish actions of one person, it really lends a whole other level of severity,” Teare said.
