Middle schoolers use same needle to give each other tattoos in class, TX officials say
A Texas school district said it is looking into how middle school students were able to give each other tattoos during class.
The Greenville Independent School District said it “immediately launched an investigation” after learning students at Travis Intermediate School used the same needle to tattoo classmates with temporary ink, according to a Feb. 27 Facebook post from the district.
The teachers assigned to the classrooms where the tattooing took place have been suspended until the investigation is finished, district officials said.
Ashley Armstrong, a parent of one of the students involved, told KDFW her son said “the needle was shared several times” between multiple classes.
Armstrong told the outlet her 11-year-old had two tattoos, which read “I heart my lord,” and “JC.” The mother told the outlet he tested negative for any diseases.
“The district administration strongly condemns the alleged activities and will not tolerate such conduct,” officials said in the statement. “A comprehensive review of the affected campus will be conducted to ensure that the incident in question remains an isolated occurrence and does not happen again.”
Greenville is about a 50-mile drive northeast from Dallas.
