Stepdad and stepson stalk and try to kill man in murder-for-hire plot, Texas court says
A stepfather and stepson are accused of attempting to kill a man for money in early February, according to a Texas court.
Documents from Harris County District Court detail how Ricardo Antonio Obando accepted cash from an unknown person to kill a man and then paid his stepson, Matthew Xavier Rosas, to assist him.
Obando was arrested Feb. 15 and both have been charged with attempted capital murder, according to court documents.
“The defendant, along with his co-defendant, tracked and surveilled the complainant more than one time before the shooting,” a court document said.
Obando paid Rosas $300 to drive him to the victim, court documents state.
According to court documents, Obando shot the victim multiple times. The attempted murder failed when the victim called 911, according to court documents.
A news release from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office describes the shooting, which took place at approximately 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 4 on a stretch of highway on the outskirts of Houston.
“Patrol deputies found a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds,” the report said. “The male victim was in critical condition and life flighted to a nearby hospital.”
Police found surveillance footage of a suspect’s vehicle, a white pickup truck, after the shooting.
