An 8-year-old girl remains missing following a Christmas Eve crash that killed her father, Texas authorities say.

The Sherman Police Department said a vehicle left US-75 the morning of Dec. 24 and got caught in a drainage ditch, according to a Facebook post. The vehicle then traveled down a creek.

KXII reported the Chevrolet Traverse contained a family of six traveling from Durant, Oklahoma, to McKinney, Texas.

Four people were rescued from the SUV, but the other two members of the family went missing, police said.

“The other two were swept away by the water,” Sherman Police Department Lt. Sam Boyle told KTEN. “We tried to get them also, they kept trying farther down the stream, down the creek, and we were just unable to reach them.”

Authorities later found the body of Will Robinson, according to CBS News. His 8-year-old daughter remained unaccounted for.

A two-day search for the missing girl has come up empty, police said. By the afternoon of Christmas Day, authorities said the search had covered seven miles of creek.

In crises like these, we are blessed to serve a community that so badly wants to help in any way they can,” police said Wednesday. “We have dozens of first responders involved in this search, many with extensive training in searching in hazardous conditions.”

Police said two members of the family remained in the hospital on Christmas, KXAS reported. All four passengers who were rescued are expected to survive.

Robinson, referred to as a “true friend to so many,” was the head coach for the Durant High School girls’ basketball team.

“Coach Will Robinson was a great coach & wonderful person,” said the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association, which referred to him as “the kindest of souls.”

Sherman, about a 65-mile drive north from Dallas, is about a 30-mile drive southwest from Durant.
