A brave dog is getting a second chance in life after spending a lot of time in agony, a Texas shelter says.

When Arthur was brought to the Gulf Coast Humane Society in Corpus Christi, he was a mere shell of himself and horribly ill from being malnourished, the shelter said in a Dec. 17 Facebook post.

“Arthur came to us from Nueces County Animal Services in rough shape. He was so skinny you could see every bone, his teeth were nearly all broken or filed down, and his poor skin was a mess,” the shelter said. “He’s been through a lot, but even after all that, Arthur is gentle, loving, and full of hope.”

The shelter got to work on his treatment plan, giving him the medications necessary for the pup to be happy in a new life once completely healed, staff noted.

“Right now, Arthur is in our care, getting the treatment he needs to heal—putting on weight, fighting infections, and working on growing back that beautiful fur coat,” the shelter. “He’s a survivor, and we’re here to make sure his future is as bright as his personality.”

Love for the darling dog filled the comment section.

“Thank you for caring for him and countless other animals in need of help and hope,” one person said.

“May (Arthur) heal and recover so he’s able to have a happy ending with a loving family,” another commented.
