Accused car thief shot when husband, wife grab guns and find him in garage, TX cops say
A man is hospitalized after Texas police said a husband and wife armed themselves to confront a pair of alleged car thieves in their garage, and shot one of them, news outlets reported.
Officers responded to a home on San Antonio’s northwest side at about 3 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, and spoke with the husband and wife, who said they thwarted an attempted vehicle burglary, police told KENS.
The husband told police he received an alert during the night from a security system, notifying him of a break-in to his truck, the outlet reported.
He grabbed an AK-style rifle while his wife also grabbed a gun, and together they went to check on the truck — and discovered two people in the vehicle, police told KSAT.
At least one of the suspects was armed as well, the husband told officers, the outlet reported. He fired a shot toward the pair before they got into a vehicle and drove away, police said.
That shot apparently didn’t miss, according to police, as a man was dropped off at a nearby hospital moments later with a gunshot wound to the back, WOAI reported.
KSAT reported that the man’s injuries were life-threatening, according to police.
The man, who police told KSAT matches the description of the accused burglar, is not cooperating with investigators.
