A lot of people are moving to Texas. Here’s why, according to one study
According to a new study, Texas is not only a popular state to move to, but it is also one of the most affordable states in the country.
Rocket Moving compiled data from the U.S. Census Bureau that considers international and domestic migration, happiness scores, quality of life, cost of living and average rent. From this, Rocket Moving determined the 10 states people don’t want to move from.
Texas ranked 10th out of the 50 states on the list. However, it did rank second-most-affordable because of its cost of living and rent prices.
Idaho was crowned the No. 1 state people do not want to move from—however, Idaho also has the highest rent price in the top 10. New York was ranked as the state people want to move from the most.

How Rocket Moving Ranked Texas
Texas has a total of 30,503,301 residents, according to U.S. Census and World Population Review reports.
Rocket Money also found that 672 people are moving to Texas per capita (every 100,000 residents within one year) per the U.S. Census Bureau.
“Net international migration in Texas is smaller than in Florida, with 164,062 more people moving to Texas from other countries than Texas residents moving abroad,” according to the study.
Rocket Moving found that Texas’ average rent price was $1,886. This is barely behind Tennessee, who is ranked as the most affordable, at $1,860.
