An off-leash dog attacked a 2-year-old and a mom, sending them both to the hospital with injuries, Texas deputies said.

The mother was pushing her child in a stroller through a Spring neighborhood when the dog, believed to be a pit bull, attacked the 2-year-old, according to an Aug. 29 Facebook post by the Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 4.

The woman attempted to push the dog off of her child, but she was also bitten, according to deputies.

Both the mother and her child were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries, deputies said. The dog was taken by animal control.

The constable’s office says dogs should be leashed in public spaces, even if they are off-leash trained.

Spring is about 25 miles north of downtown Houston.
