Guests at the pool party made the discovery after hearing gunshots around 11 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, outside a home in northeast Houston, KIAH reported.

The partygoers rushed to help the 20-year-old victim, who police said was then taken to a hospital, KHOU reported. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“There were several people at the party, but nobody at the party knows him or has admitted to knowing him yet,” Houston Police Lt. JP Horelica told KTRK.

Police did not release any additional information about the victim. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Houston police at 713-308-3600.

From June 2023 to June 2024, there were 60,000 911 calls made within 300 feet of a short-term home rental in Houston, according to KPRC. The news outlet said city leaders have discussed cracking down on short-term rentals before the end of 2024.
