A Texas shelter is caring for three puppies after they were found in “serious, unbearable” condition.

An “urgent Facebook post” brought attention to the puppies, according to a July 30 Facebook post by the Gulf Coast Humane Society.

“Just by looking at these poor pups, you can tell these little ones are almost completely hairless and unbearably itchy,” shelter officials said.

The three puppies, who were named Barnacle Boy, Tuna, and Dolphina, all tested positive for Demodex, which is a mite that lives in hair follicles and can lead to hair loss and itching.

The majority of the shelter staff was away at an animal welfare conference when the puppies were found, but the organization’s “development coordinator sprang into action to help.”

The puppies are being cared for and are not yet up for adoption.
