Among the 25 safest and most affordable U.S. cities, Texas takes up 11 spots on the list.
In a recent study, GOBankingRates compiled a list of the safest and most affordable cities. Based on crime rates and cost of living averages, they concluded that Brownsville, at No. 30, is the most affordable city overall, with an average monthly cost of living of $2,940.
“Cities were then ranked from lowest to highest based on these average crime rates and costs and the ratings were factored by crimes per 1,000 people, then compared to the national average,” according to GOBankingRates.com.
Texas first pops up on the list at No. 4 with League City. This suburb of Houston is a four-and-a-half-hour drive from Fort Worth. Its average monthly cost of living is $4,157 with a low violent crime average of 126.
Six other Texas cities in the top 25 are within the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Mckinney and Frisco, previously No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, in 2022, appeared again on the list.
Elgin, Illinois, is rated the safest and most affordable city overall. The average monthly cost of living is $4,008, and there are an average of 215 violent crimes.
