Ranch named after four-legged locals lists in Texas — for first time in 95 years
For the first time in almost a century, a stunning, 2,868-acre property has hopped up on the real estate market outside Sonora, Texas, and it comes with a rich history and awesome name.
One that comes from the parading white Angora goats that inhabited the hills surrounding the ranch when it was established in 1903.
Rancho Blanco — which is listed for $6.355 million — has been in the same family for three generations and still has the original 7,000-square-foot home, Casa Piedra. It’s now for sale for the first time in 95 years.
“Nestled on the outskirts of Sonora, Texas, where the Chihuahuan Desert meets the Hill Country, Rancho Blanco enjoys a distinctive environment ideal for both ranching and recreation,” the listing on Ruple Ranch & Land says.

The name is significant thanks to the herd of Angora goats that were raised by John A. Ward, a Texas cowboy, and his wife, Virginia, after they settled on the land in 1903. The goats would eventually become a family business and ended up one being of the most prominent goat breeding businesses in the states, a news release says.
“Flocks of Angoras dotting the rolling limestone hills looked like a swale of white, earning the ranch its name,” the release says.
Casa Piedra underwent a restoration from 2020 to 2022.
