Vehicle crashes through emergency room, killing one and injuring five, Texas cops say
A vehicle crashing into an Austin, Texas, emergency room killed one and injured five others on Feb. 13, Texas officials say.
The driver was pulled from the car but died at the scene that evening, officials said in a media briefing posted by KXAN.
Of the five injured patients hit in the crash, one was treated onsite at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center where the crash occurred, Austin-Travis County EMS said. The remaining four, including two children, were taken to other hospitals in the area.
One child had critical injuries and the other had non-life threatening injuries, Austin EMS said.
Identifying information about the victims has not been released.
Another eight patients from the St. David’s emergency room were set to be transported to a different facility despite not being hurt in the crash, Austin EMS said. This was to ease the strain on hospital operations after the crash.
Police said the crash did not appear to be intentional, but the incident is still under investigation.
