Beloved gas station Casey’s and its popular pizza are coming to Texas. What to know
Casey’s General Store, the popular gas station chain known for its handmade pizza, is finally coming to Texas.
Casey’s, which has more than 2,500 stores across 16 states, is acquiring 22 Lone Star Food Store locations for its first foray into Texas. The transaction will be complete by the end of November, a Casey’s spokesperson said in a statement to McClatchy News.
Casey’s said its 22 new stores will be in the North Texas region, most within a 60-mile radius of Sherman.
“These stores will serve as a springboard into the great state of Texas for Casey’s, while still located within our self-distribution network,” said Darren Rebelez, Casey’s president and CEO. “We look forward to continuing to serve these communities, welcoming our new team members to the Casey’s family, and bringing our delicious pizza to North Texas soon.”
Did someone say pizza? Yes, Casey’s prides itself on its pizza, which include breakfast options and specialty pies.
In fact, the convenience store giant announced in October it was awarded the trademark as “The Official Pizza and Beer Headquarters.” Casey’s says it’s the fifth-largest pizza chain in the United States.
Tom Brennan, the Chief Merchandising Officer at Casey’s, said the store is the only leading pizza chain where customers can also purchase alcohol.
“One thing that truly separates Casey’s is the convenience of ordering craveable, handmade pizza from a place where you can also buy fuel, groceries and, of course, beer,” Brennan said in October.
Casey’s originated in Iowa in 1968. The majority of its locations are in the Midwest.
