Capsized boat leaves three adults stranded for hours off Texas coast, officials say
Coast Guard officials are crediting three boaters’ life jackets for their survival after their vessel capsized off the Texas shore.
The captain of a fishing boat discovered the capsized boat at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 16, about 10 miles off the coast of Freeport, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Three boaters who were on the capsized boat had been in the water for two hours before they were seen, officials say.
The crew of the fishing boat rescued the stranded boaters, who were all wearing life jackets. A Coast Guard crew brought the three men to shore, according to a news release.
None of the men were injured.
“If they weren’t wearing life jackets, they may not have gone home to their families,” Petty Officer 2nd Class Jayven Amanonce said in a statement.
Freeport is about 60 miles south of Houston.
