This new $38M Buc-ee’s travel center will finally be built after 10 years of planning
A new $38-million Buc-ee’s travel center will be built in Boerne — in Kendall County, roughly 256 miles south of Fort Worth.
The 53,471-square-foot gas station will be located off of Interstate 10 and U.S. Business 87.
Plans to build the new gas station have been a decade in the making. The Buc-ee’s in Boerne was announced in 2016, but the wait for TxDOT to finish road improvements has delayed the project almost a decade, according to mySA.
While it’s not in North Texas, the stop is on the way to San Antonio from Fort Worth. There are two locations on the route: one in New Braunfels and another in Temple.
The new Buc-ee’s will be similar to the other Texas locations, designated as a “Travel center with associated sitework and fuel canopies,” according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Construction will start on Oct. 1 and should be completed by Oct. 1, 2024.
What about Buc-ee’s in North Texas?
Texans love their Buc-ee’s: “Gas station bathrooms don’t exactly scream excellence. But for millions of drivers throughout Texas and the Southeast, nothing beckons them to the 44 Buc-ee’s travel centers more than the — really? — rest rooms,” according to an article on Forbes.com.
A recent Star-Telegram poll asked readers where they felt Buc-ee’s needed to be built. The overwhelming consensus was that Buc-ee’s should take a hard look at the I-20/I-30 corridor west of Fort Worth. More specifically, around Hudson Oaks, Weatherford and Aledo in Parker County.
Also in 2016, Buc-ee’s opened their Fort Worth location, which is across from Texas Motor Speedway in Denton. More than 50 people were lined up before the store made its grand opening.
