Student stabs faculty member at Texas junior high school, officials say

A faculty member at a Texas junior high school is hospitalized after a violent incident with a student, officials said Tuesday, Sept. 27.
It happened in the morning at Alvin Junior High School, before classes started, an Alvin Independent School District spokesperson told McClatchy News in an email.
“The student is in custody and, out of an abundance of caution, the faculty member has been transported to a local hospital,” the spokesperson said.
A student stabbed the faculty member, KTRK reported. Officials did not say what the student stabbed them with but said it was not a knife.
The faculty member is a coach for the school’s football, basketball and track programs, the Houston Chronicle reported. He also teaches technology.
Alvin ISD’s police department is investigating the incident, the district said, adding “appropriate charges will be filed.”
Alvin, population roughly 27,000, is about 30 miles southeast of downtown Houston.
