A Frisco High School student was taken into custody Tuesday and accused of making online threats to the school over the weekend, police said.

The 16-year-old who authorities did not identify because he is a juvenile faces a charge of terroristic threat, a third degree felony.

If convicted, he faces a maximum of 10 years in jail.

Frisco police were alerted around 2 p.m. Sunday to a threat against Frisco High School that was posted on social media.

Detectives and Frisco police school resource officers were able to identify the alleged suspect making the threats as a 16-year-old student who attends the school.

Additional Frisco police officers were stationed at the campus during the investigation.

The juvenile was detained Tuesday without incident and later brought to the Frisco Police Department’s Juvenile Processing Office. He was later transported to the Denton County Juvenile Detention Center in Denton.

“The Frisco Police Department takes all threats made against our schools seriously and will exhaust all means necessary to hold accountable those responsible,” Frisco Police Chief David Shilson said in a Tuesday news release. “I am thankful for the concerned students and parents who took action and brought the threat to our attention, as well as our continued partnership with the Frisco Independent School District, which helped expedite the investigation.”
