A body believed to be of a 72-year-old woman was discovered less than a day after she went missing, Texas cops say.

Bettye Robinson went missing after she left her son’s Anahuac residence on foot around 9 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, according to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office. Anahuac is in southeast Texas about 50 miles east of Houston.

She suffered from dementia and believed she was still in upstate New York, her son told the sheriff’s office.

Crews searched for Robinson using K9 crews and helicopters, and a Silver Alert was issued when authorities were unable to find her.

On Sunday, Aug. 14, deputies found a body in a canal they believe to be Robinson’s. The Anahuac Channel is a few blocks from where Robinson went missing, and the canal is about a mile downstream.

Deputies did not say how Robinson may have ended up in the water.
