62-year-old Texan drowns after falling off inflatable raft in Oklahoma, officials say

A 62-year-old drowned in an Oklahoma lake after trying to ask for help while floating on an inflatable raft, officials say.

The drowning happened on Saturday, June 25, in Broken Bow Lake in southeastern Oklahoma, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. David Miller, from Quinlan, Texas, was floating on the raft and flagged down bystanders on a boat to ask for help, highway patrol said.

Miller fell off the raft, and when the bystanders pulled him onto their boat, they found he was dead, according to highway patrol. He was officially pronounced dead by McCurtain County first responders at the scene.

The 62-year-old Texan was not wearing a flotation device, officials say.

Miller’s hometown of Quinlan is about 150 miles southwest of Broken Bow Lake.

Broken Bow Lake covers 14,000 acres and is considered a “perfect destination for boating, water sports, swimming, fishing and more.
