Watch Texas singer ‘nail it’ with ‘American Idol’ performance as he tops the charts
A Texas singer won over the “American Idol” judges — just as he relished in his chart-topping album.
“My EP just hit No. 1 on the pop charts,” Fritz Hager said in a video posted to Twitter on April 28.
As of May 2, the singer’s self-titled EP was also ranked the sixth-highest album across all music genres on iTunes.
As Hager celebrated his online success, he wowed on the “American Idol” stage. The celebrity judges said they were impressed when he performed “Go the Distance” from Disney’s “Hercules,” according to video from the episode that aired May 1.
“You always just nail it,” judge Luke Bryan said. “You always nail the guitar. You nail the moments.”
Fellow judge Lionel Richie also had congratulatory words for the contestant, saying: “You have always been our surprise package on this show.”
Though judges gave him praise, fans could vote for Hager to stay on the show. The 22-year-old Tyler, Texas resident was one of seven singers to advance to the next round of the competition.
“Another week,” Hager tweeted the night the latest episode aired. “You guys blow my mind with your support every time. This past week has been one of the most special, fulfilling moments in my life. Thank you.”
