Inspired by Phillip Phillips, Fritz Hager continues to make a name for himself on “American Idol” just as the former winner did in 2012.

The Tyler, Texas, native found himself in the top 10 on “Idol” after his performance of “Let It Go” by James Bay on Sunday, April 24.

Now looking to advance even deeper in the competition, Hager chose a song that is engraved deep within meme culture — “Wonderwall” by Oasis.

His twist on the iconic 1990s song elicited a standing ovation from the judges.

“I don’t have anything to say except it was perfect,” judge Lionel Richie said. “The song was delivered perfectly.”

“You flipped that on its head and that was not a meme. That was brilliance,” fellow judge Katy Perry added.

Hager will find out if he advances in the competition on Sunday, May 1.

Hager was described by “American Idol” during his audition that aired earlier this year as a “self-doubting security guard.” He said during his audition tape that Phillips inspired him as a singer and guitar player.

Wearing a red plaid shirt during his audition just as Phillips did, Hager made it to Hollywood by performing “Before You Go” by Lewis Capaldi.

“I do not want to be sitting in that room for the rest of my life,” he said of his job as a security officer. “I want to be on stage performing.”
