A 2-year-old boy was struck and killed on Wednesday, April 13, as he ran toward an ice cream truck, Dallas Police say.

It happened around 8:15 p.m. outside an apartment complex on Delafield Lane in eastern Dallas.

As the 2-year-old boy was running toward the parked ice cream truck, he was struck by a 53-year-old driver of a Chevy Tahoe who was attempting to pass the vehicle, according to police.

The boy was taken to Children’s Medical Center Dallas, where he died from his injuries, police said. His name has not been publicly disclosed.

The driver stopped when she realized what happened, and charges are not expected to be filed. Police called it an accident.
