Canada’s most beloved coffee and doughnut chain, Tim Hortons, is venturing down South with plans for its first ever Texas locations.

Tim Hortons is planning a summer 2022 launch with multiple restaurants in the Houston area, with a plan in the works “to open many more over the coming years,” according to a news release.

The announcement was made Sunday, Dec. 12 in a TV commercial featuring pop icon Justin Bieber, a noted Canadian and ambassador for the restaurant. Bieber and Tim Hortons announced a partnership in November to collaborate on menu items and co-branded merchandise.

“When determining where to bring our coffee shops next, Houston proved to show significant growth opportunity,” Ricardo Azevedo, regional president of Tim Hortons U.S., said in a statement. “Texas is one of the fastest growing out-of-home coffee markets in the U.S. and is still underpenetrated. Most importantly, we chose to put down roots in Houston because we love this city’s friendly hospitality, unique culture and strong sense of community.”

Tim Hortons was founded in 1964, getting its namesake by founder and NHL legend Tim Horton. There are now more than 5,000 locations worldwide.

The restaurant chain currently reportedly has 620 locations in the United States, primarily scattered throughout Michigan, Ohio and New York. The furthest south the restaurant operates is in Virginia.

Houston’s new locations will each be about 1,600 square feet, featuring a drive-thru and dine-in seating. TH of Texas, LLC, owned by CSM Group, will spearhead the launch.

“Houston is our home. This meant assuring we partnered with a brand that aligned with our values, which is why we’re so excited to bring the Tim Hortons experience to our city,” Ali Lakhany of CSM said in a news release. “Not only will we deliver delicious food and coffee to guests, but at Tims we are committed to supporting our local community. Part of this, is creating local jobs in an environment that is welcoming, fun, and simple to operate. We couldn’t be more excited to bring Tims to Houston, and we’ll soon look to expand into surrounding metropolitan cities.”
