Girl shot when grandson stages grandmother’s death as drive-by shooting, Texas cops say
A 23-year-old man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly killed his grandmother and injured a girl while staging the scene to make it look like a drive-by shooting, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred in the Houston area around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted.
Marcus Hanson told deputies he was awakened “when someone began shooting into their home,” according to the sheriff’s office.
He told deputies he went outside with a gun and fired at a fleeing vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
But investigators determined there was no drive-by shooting, according to the sheriff’s office. Gonzalez said Hanson “attempted to stage the scene.”
Deputies found Hanson’s grandmother, 68-year-old Shelia Crosslin, dead in her bed, according to officials.
In addition, a bullet grazed an 11-year-old girl in a neighboring home, striking her in the head while she was playing with her siblings in her parent’s bedroom, officials said.
The girl was treated at the scene and released back to her parents, officials said.
Hanson was charged with his grandmother’s murder. Officials did not reveal a possible motive in the case.
