Worker suffering medical emergency rescued from atop Texas flagpole, video shows

A maintenance worker suffering a medical emergency while on top of a 150-foot flagpole Monday in Texas had to be rescued by helicopter, police say.

It’s unclear what medical emergency the man was experiencing, or what his condition is, Steven Rutherford, the Farmers Branch Police Department public information officer, told McClatchy News.

Upon arriving at the scene in Farmers Branch, the city’s fire and police department requested a helicopter from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The video shows an aircrew using equipment to reach the man clinging to the flagpole and flying away to bring him to safety.

“The man was safely removed from the pole and transported to a hospital to get checked out,” the fire department wrote in a Facebook Post.

Rutherford said it’s not clear who called the fire department to the scene.
