Amber Alert canceled after baby girl found dead in river, father arrested, police say

Gainesville police found an infant’s body in a car submerged in the Red River on Tuesday and arrested a man found at the scene, police said.

An Amber Alert had been issued early Tuesday morning for 3-month-old Lyrik Brown, who was reported missing from Gainesville and believed to have been kidnapped by her father, Jeremy Brown, 30.

On Tuesday afternoon, Gainesville police received information on their location, police said in a Facebook post. Officers were dispatched to the Red River at Interstate 35, and they found Jeremy Brown in the river next to an overturned vehicle that was submerged in the water.

Authorities pulled the car from the river and found an infant’s body in a car seat. Lyrik’s family has been notified and positive identification is pending, police said.

Jeremy Brown was taken into custody on the warrant issued earlier in the day.
