San Antonio girl, 2, taken by grandmother, found safe after Amber Alert, authorities say

A 2-year-old San Antonio girl who was reportedly taken by her grandmother was found safe Friday morning after a statewide Amber Alert was issued.

Department of Public Safety troopers spotted the pair in a vehicle traveling on Interstate 35 in McClennon County near Waco, about two hours after the alert was issued, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

Law enforcement officials had said Aurora Lee Lopez, 2, could have been in grave or immediate danger, according to the Amber Alert. She now has been returned to her family.

Sherry McGill, 49, took her granddaughter on Friday morning, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said in posts on Twitter and Facebook. She fled a residence in the east part of the county, the sheriff’s office said, and was believed to be heading to Oklahoma with Lopez.

It was unclear whether McGill was taken into custody, the Express-News reported.
