Jesus would have frowned upon what cops say was discovered in this old Texas church
When people went to one Texas church building over the weekend, they weren’t headed there to worship — they were headed there to win, police say.
Houston police discovered an illegal gaming room in the old church building early Sunday, officials said in a tweet.
Inside, police found eight-liner slot machines and a number of other games, KTRK reported.
Eight-liner machines that offer cash payouts are illegal in Texas, according to the outlet. Machines that award small, non-crash prizes are an exception.
Records indicate that a church moved out of the building in 2019 and it was listed for lease in October, KHOU reported. At the time of the incident, there was no signage or any indication that the building was currently being used as a house of worship, according to the outlet.
When police arrived, they were able to persuade some of the room’s patrons to stay and cooperate with the investigation, the tweet said.
The game room task force ultimately responded, police say, but it hasn’t been reported if arrests were made.
