Watch this Texas family’s reunion with their missing dog — 14 years later
After 14 years apart, a Houston family was finally reunited with its dog.
Thirteen years ago, Aaron Webster and his wife were married and got their dog Remi. The dog was flown from Iowa as a wedding present for the couple, and Remi, a Yorkie, became like their first son, Saving Hope Animal Rescue said in a post on Facebook.
Then the worst happened.
“Two blissful, happy months passed by before tragedy struck,” Saving Hope said. “Remi was stolen from a family member’s yard when they were over visiting. They searched for months and months to find Remi and ultimately assumed the worst.”
Now, nearly 14 years later, Remi was found in Fort Worth, Texas, about 260 miles from Houston, Saving Hope said.
An officer with Fort Worth Animal Care & Control picked up what he believed to be a stray dog, Saving Hope said. The dog was in “horrible condition.”
“He was covered in mats, had an open wound on his face and was barely recognizable,” the animal rescue agency said.
Luckily, Remi was microchipped and animal experts were able to find his owner that way.
“After nearly fourteen years missing and miles and miles away from home, Remi had finally been found,” Saving Hope said.
The Websters were reunited with Remi, again feeling all the love they had felt for him years ago. Animal rescue group volunteers are still in shock that they were able to reunite the dog with his family, NBC DFW reported.
“It was really special,” McKenzie Smith, a volunteer with Saving Hope Rescue, told NBC DFW. “I know I’ll never forget it and the Webster family won’t either. I mean story of a lifetime, dog of a lifetime and he’s finally at home.”
