Man stuffs baby in backpack and leaves her in his car until she dies, Texas cops say

A 27-year-old Texas man is facing a capital murder charge after placing a 10-month-old in a backpack and leaving her in his car, Lubbock Police said in a news release.

Trevor Marquis Rowe, 27, was arrested at “1 a.m. Jan. 8 for the murder of 10-month-old Marion Jester-Montoya,” authorities said.

On Tuesday, Rowe “picked up Jester-Montoya from his shared residence with the victim’s mother and took the 10-month-old to his place of employment,” police said.

He then put the child in a backpack, placed the backpack on the floorboard of his passenger seat and left her in the car while “checking on her periodically,” police noted.

After his lunch break ended, “Rowe moved the child through the backseat pass through to the trunk. Several hours later, Rowe checked on the child and found that she was not breathing,” police said.

Rowe called 911 and “drove to the intersection of 130th and Upland Avenue where he started CPR and waited for EMS,” police noted. Police arrived at 5 p.m. after receiving a call “to assist EMS due to a child not breathing,” authorities said.

Jester-Montoya was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Rowe “has been booked at the Lubbock County Detention Center on a warrant for capital murder. His bond is set at $2 million,” police said.

Rowe was “previously arrested in 2018 for leaving two children unattended. The 2018 charge was dropped,” EverythingLubbock.com reported.
