Machete-wielding Taco Bell worker gets mad at drive-thru customer, Texas police say

A Taco Bell employee at the drive-thru window got angry with a customer trying to order food Sunday afternoon, media outlets report.

So, he reportedly pulled out an 18-inch machete.

The driver was ordering at the Taco Bell in Austin, Texas, but the worker couldn’t hear him through the speaker, KVUE reported.

“Can you not hear?” the driver asked, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Austin TV station.

“Why don’t you pull up and I will show you what I have for you,” the employee responded.

Surveillance cameras from inside the restaurant then captured the worker going to the break room and grabbing the machete, KXAN reported. He returned to the window and swung at the customer’s vehicle, hitting the driver’s side mirror twice, KXAN reported.

After the customer drove off, video caught the employee putting the machete in a dumpster, the Austin American-Statesman reported. Police found the weapon during their investigation, the newspaper reported.

Samuel Hemmit, 21, was in Travis County jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, records showed.
