Father shot in car with 8-year-old son at shopping center in Texas, cops say
A man in Texas is in critical condition after police say a gunman opened fire on the car he was in with his 8-year-old son on Sunday.
Police say a father was driving in a white Porsche at The Rim — a shopping center in San Antonio — with his 8-year-old son when someone in a black sedan began firing shots at the car, the San Antonio Express-News reported. The Porsche then crashed into an SUV at the valet tent, police say.
Officials say the man, 26, was struck by at least one bullet and suffered life-threatening injuries, WOAI reported.
His son was in the car at the time of the shooting but was unharmed, KSAT reported. He’s staying with family members.
Police say officials believe the shooting was targeted and not random, according to the outlet. The car is believed to be a dark sedan, potentially a Toyota Corolla, according to officials.
The shopping center says it’s cooperating with authorities in a statement obtained by WOAI.
“We are working closely with SAPD as they investigate what appears to be an isolated shooting incident between two individuals that randomly ended in our parking lot,” the statement said, according to the outlet “We value the safety of our patrons and are proud of our exemplary safety record. The RIM security force is in regular coordination with local law enforcement year-round, and even more so now, during the busy holiday shopping season.”
Police are searching for the car, KSAT reported. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the San Antonio Police Department.
