Liberals clap back in a new billboard in Amarillo: 'Texas is for everyone - not bigotry'
If you didn't get the memo: "Texas is for everyone — not for bigotry," says a new billboard that went up in Amarillo on Monday.
The signage came in response to a billboard put up along I-40 six miles east of nearby Vega, Texas, around June 19 that read: "Liberals, please continue on I-40 until you have left our GREAT STATE OF TEXAS."
That sign was later taken down by Burkett Outdoor Advertising due to news coverage and social media backlash the company received.
Roman Neal created a GoFundMe page on June 20 saying, "We need a sign that represents the true, hospitable spirit of the great state of Texas."
His new sign, "Texas is for everyone — not for bigotry. Welcome, y'all!" sits on a digital billboard at the I-40 and South Coulter Street exit in west Amarillo, visible to travelers and commuters driving along the interstate.
Neal's campaign goal of $1,800 is enough to keep the billboard up for four weeks and his donations have already exceeded $4,000, he says.
Any contributions exceeding the goal will be used to pay for keeping the billboard up longer, according to the GoFundMe page.
