How License Plates are Made in Texas
If you've seen a lot of black license plates on Texas roads, there's a reason.
The "Classic Black" license plate — a throwback to the 1960s, when this was the standard plate issued — was the top selling license plate in Texas last year for the second year in a row.
In fact, more than 9,500 "Classic Black" personalized plates featuring a black background with white lettering were distributed last year, according to MyPlates.com, a Texas based company that creates specialty license plates.
The Lone Star Black, Texas Black and Small Star Black designs rounded out the top four selling plates. The Small Star Silver design ranked No. 5.
“Black and white plates are very popular in Texas," Steve Farrar, president of My Plates.com, has said. "They look sleek, cool, and complement every vehicle color."
