Former state Sen. Kelly Hancock did not inform the Tarrant GOP of his plans to resign from the Texas Legislature, the party’s chair told the Star-Telegram.

Hancock, whose former legislative district included portions of Tarrant County including Fort Worth, left his seat on June 19 to take a position in the Texas comptroller’s office, the Star-Telegram previously reported. Hancock will take over for current comptroller Glenn Hegar on July 1, when Hegar takes over as chancellor of the Texas A&M University system.

“Sadly, I have had no communication with Senator Hancock in over a year,” party chair Bo French said in an email to the Star-Telegram on Saturday. Hancock declined to donate to Tarrant Republicans last year during the presidential election, French said.

The state comptroller’s office is responsible for managing Texas’ money: collecting taxes, managing revenue and awarding and managing state contracts.

Hancock could not immediately be reached for comment by phone on Saturday.
