Texas GOP governor candidate Allen West says he ‘flicked’ off man’s mask at DFW Airport
Allen West, a Republican candidate for Texas governor, said that after being “cursed and insulted” by a person at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport for not wearing a mask, he flicked the man’s mask off Wednesday morning. West’s campaign issued a press release about the incident and the candidate tweeted about it.
“This morning at the airport a man starts yelling at me and tells me to put my mask on and calls me an idiot,” West tweeted. “I walked over to him and asked if he called me an idiot, he continued to yell at me. I pulled down his mask and said see, nothing happened.”
West said that the man, who he called a “stupid man,” then “raised his fists [at him],” before DFW Airport police were called to respond to the incident and a report was filed.
Federal regulations require wearing a mask at airports.
“Left-wing activists have brazenly badgered and assaulted conservatives and perceived heretics of the COVID orthodoxy and liberal dogma since the beginning of the Trump administration and onward,” his campaign team said in a news release. “West will not cave to bullying by progressive political punks. We look forward to a resolution on this matter, and as governor, West will not tolerate abusive agitators. Rule of law and common decency will be defended.”
The retired Army lieutenant colonel tested positive for COVID-19 in early October, he announced at the time.
West, who is unvaccinated, said that there was concern regarding his oxygen saturation levels and that chest X-rays showed COVID-19 pneumonia, which was “not serious.” The 60-year-old was hospitalized.
The GOP candidate reported he was “already taking Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin protocols,” and defended his unvaccinated status.
“Instead of jabbing Americans, and not illegal immigrants, with a dangerous shot which injects them with these spike proteins . . . guess what? I now have natural immunity and double the antibodies, and that’s science,” he tweeted on Oct. 10.
He returned home from the hospital the following day and said he tested negative for the virus on Oct. 15.
West plans to hold a press conference at noon Thursday in Richardson to discuss “medical freedom issues.”
