Here’s who is on the ballot in Fort Worth ISD’s District 7 school board race

Incumbent trustee Michael Ryan faces off against Terry Roach for the Fort Worth Independent School District board’s District 7 seat.

Ryan, a career educator, said his decades of classroom experience give him unparalleled insight into Fort Worth’s schools. Roach didn’t respond to the Star-Telegram’s questionnaire.

Why are you seeking this office?

To continue efforts to improve literacy and math knowledge, keep taxes as low as possible, purchase land for a future Benbrook HS.

If elected, what would your top 3 policy priorities be?

Provide the superintendent with the support necessary to improve our schools in all areas, operate a finally sound budget, provide safety and security for our students and staff

How will you measure your success as a district trustee?

Did I work with other board members, parents and community to help our students be successful in their various school courses and endeavors

Why should voters choose you over your opponent?

My nearly 50 years experience as an educator gives me insight into our schools that no one else has.

Fort Worth ISD has declared literacy as its main priority. What strategies would you like to see the district adopt to boost reading scores?

More class time focus on literacy, provide more tutoring for our students in need, enlist the community in assisting students in need.

Besides literacy, what other issues do you consider priorities for Fort Worth ISD, and how would you address them?

Supporting the other area of education available in our schools, everything from art to welding so students can find areas of success in future employment and in life. work to right size the number of schools so we can realign saved funds to provide better opportunities for our students and better pay for our staff.
