Occupation: Registered Nurse

Have you run for elected office before? (Please list previous offices sought, with years): I have served in the Texas House since being elected in 2013. I was previously elected and served for 6 years as the Chairman of the Tarrant County Republican Party

Please list the highlights of your civic involvement/activism.

Texas Conservative Coalition – Vice President

Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute Board Member

Member of the Children’s Commission of the Texas Supreme Court

Appointed by Governor Abbott to the Early Childhood Education

Advisory Committee at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission

Former Chair, Tarrant County Republican Party

Have you ever been arrested, charged with a crime or otherwise been part of a criminal proceeding? If yes, please explain: no

Have you been involved in a civil lawsuit or bankruptcy proceeding? If yes, please explain: I have never filed for bankruptcy. I have been named as a defendant in multiple lawsuits in my official capacity by liberal groups that oppose the recent pro-life legislation that was passed during previous legislative sessions.

Who are your top three campaign contributors?: All my contributors are publicly available on the Texas Ethics website.

Why are you seeking this office?: I continue to seek this office to make a difference in the lives of my constituents. Few members of the legislature have a background in healthcare (I have been a registered nurse for over 40 years) yet it greatly impacts our state budget and the everyday lives of our citizens. These are complex issues and the taxpayers are best served by those with the knowledge and experience to develop conservative solutions for these issues.

What are the biggest challenges facing House District 91?: My constituents are rightly concerned about the Biden administration’s failure to secure our border. Many of my constituents are suffering from economic challenges caused by rising inflation, and a growing concern about the loss of freedoms and liberties. Many of these issues are directly related to policies of the Biden/Harris administration, which I will continue to oppose.

If elected, what would your top 3 policy priorities be?:

Conservative approaches to improving access to healthcare and securing our medical freedoms

Reducing the cost of healthcare for taxpayer and citizens

Continuing efforts to reform property taxes in our state

How will you measure your success as a state legislator?: Success is measured by success in solving problems, and much of what we do as legislators is to solve problems for the people we represent. Sometimes that involves legislation, but other times that involves helping constituents navigate state agencies until their problem is resolved.

Why should voters choose you over your opponents?: I have deep roots in this community, having grown up in the district attending school in the Birdville ISD and St John the Apostle School. I have spent decades serving this community as a nurse and now as their elected Representative in Austin. I have a track record of successfully passing complex legislation which the residents of HD 91 have benefited from. Furthermore, in this campaign I have earned the overwhelming majority of endorsements which validate my strong conservative record, and some of those include: Gov. Greg Abbott, NRA, Texas State Rifle Association, Texas Right to Life, Texas Alliance for Life, Texans for Life Coalition, Texans for Medical Freedom, Tarrant County Republican Assembly, DFW Conservative Voters, Americans for Prosperity, Texas Home School Coalition, Fort Worth Police Officers Association, Texas Municipal Police Association, Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association, NFIB Texas, and others.

Should Attorney General Ken Paxton have been convicted during his Senate impeachment trial? Why/Why not?: As a member of the House my role was to determine if there was sufficient evidence to merit a trial in the Senate. I believe there was sufficient evidence to proceed to a trial, and, on the first day of the trial, the members of the Senate agreed to continue the trial. No one is above the law.

Do you support Gov. Greg Abbott’s call for the use of education savings accounts? Why?/Why not?: Yes. I support allowing parents to choose the best educational opportunities for their children. Families alone know what is best for their child whether public school, charter school, private school, or home school. More education choices and options mean more opportunity for a quality education.

What should Texas do to address immigration and border security at the Texas-Mexico border?: It’s a shame that Joe Biden’s terrible neglect of securing the border has led to Texas having to spend billions to do his job. Every session I have been in Austin, we have sent additional funds, resources, and personnel for border security. This past session, I supported and voted for over $6 billion in new funding to build the wall and increase border security. Additionally, I supported SB 4 that made illegal entry a state criminal offense and allowed Texas law enforcement to arrest and deport those individuals they observe entering the state illegally.

What should the Texas Legislature do to respond to and prepare for population growth in North Texas?: Texas is a growing state which will need additional infrastructure such as water, electricity, broadband and roads to support our new and existing residents. During the November 2023 Constitutional Amendment Election voters approved several measures addressing these needs.

Should Texas law be changed to clarify when an abortion is allowed in medical emergencies? Why/Why not?: I was a Joint Author of Texas’ abortion laws. I believe every life is worth protecting from conception to natural death. I was named the Pro-life Champion of the 88th Legislature by Texas Right to Life and received the Courageous Defense of Life Award from Texas Alliance for Life.

Should Texas expand casino gambling and legalize sports betting in Texas? Why/Why not?: I do not support gambling, and have voted against recent efforts to permit it in Texas.

What’s a Texas policy issue that’s important to you, but not necessarily as high profile? Why do you think it’s important?: As a nurse I have spent many years caring for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, some of our most vulnerable citizens. Texas is one of the few remaining states with large state institutions that care for these citizens. Many of these individuals can instead be cared for in quality community-based programs, closer to their family members and at a fraction of the cost.
