Highlights of civic involvement: In the past I have mostly been involved through my church communities as a Sunday school teacher, and then as part of a leadership team for my church.I also consider my time as a public school teacher as civic engagement. I joined Teach For America in 2012 because I believe in their mission that every child deserves a quality education. Education is something that I am still passionate about and I want to be able to be an active participant in shaping Education in Texas.

Top 3 campaign contributors: My personal campaign hasn’t raised any money.

What is the most important distinction between you and your opponent(s)?: My opponent has been part of the status quo in Texas Education. Over her 20 years on the board she hasn’t stood up for ALL students, nor has Texas improved in public education.

What are the three biggest issues in this race? 1) The learning loss caused by the pandemic which has disproportionately affected low socio-economic communities and communities of color. There are students who have become disengaged from the educational system, missing crucial educational time, and when they do return are at times grade levels behind where they should be.

2) Factual and inclusive curriculum standards

3) Improved teacher retention and pay
