Why are you seeking this office?
I am a graduate of TCC, I was employed by TCC for 13 years, and I live the institution and what she stands for.
What are the biggest challenges facing your district?
Upgrading the campuses to foster a better learning environment, ensuring students receive the best education possible at an affordable rate, and engaging the community in meeting their skill training needs to become gainfully employed.
What would your top 3 policy priorities be?
Energy efficient buildings
Close partnership with businesses to develop programs to upgrade/develop a skilled workforce.
Support of faculty to develop innovative means of delivering instruction.
Why should voters choose you over your opponent(s)?
I have a more than 40 year interaction withTCC, I currently serve on the board as a Trustee, and have a very good understanding of what she adds to the community and the direction she is headed to meet the needs of the citizens of Tarrant Cointy.
What’s the best way to help students recover from learning lost to the pandemic?
Provide additional lab opportunities with faculty present to reinforce the learning that should have taken place.
As the pandemic wanes, how should Tarrant County College use virtual instruction, if at all?
Colleges have used distant learning for years and have almost mastered this art of learning.
School/college district taxes are the biggest driver of homeowners’ property taxes. Should the district try to reduce taxes and if so, what would you cut?
The Board has reduced the tax rate in the past two years and we will continue to seek opportunities to do so if it does not compromise the quality of education offered.
How would you rate the performance of the chancellor and his leadership team? What changes would you like to see them make?
I believe the Chancellor and staff are doing a great job. I would like to see a better understanding of the faculty of how tenures and the movement from one level of faculty to the other.
