Who’s winning the Democrat Runoff for Tarrant County commissioner, Precinct 2?
Former Fort Worth City Council member Jared Williams is leading nonprofit executive Amanda Arizola in the Democratic Party primary runoff for Tarrant County Commissioner, Precinct 2.
Williams leads Arizola 62.24% to 37.76%, according to unofficial early voting results from Tarrant County.
“The early numbers are not what we hoped for, but our resolve has never been tied to one round of returns,” said Arizola spokesperson Tiesa Leggett in a text message to the Star-Telegram.
“This campaign has always been about building a strong coalition that reflects the people of this county and fighting for the issues that matter most to families,” she said
The winner of the runoff will face Republican former State Rep. Tony Tinderholt in the Nov. 3 general election.
Either Democrat will face an uphill battle running in a district redrawn in 2025 to favor Republicans.
The old map largely consisted of the southeast quadrant of Tarrant County, while the new map wraps around south Fort Worth to include the southwest section of the county up through the Fort Worth’s Ridglea North neighborhood.
Arizola pointed to her record bringing result-based community programming as vice chair of the JPS board as the main differentiator between her and Williams, in a Star-Telegram candidate survey.
Williams pointed to his government experience delivering results and bringing a “people-centered vision for county government” as his main differentiator.
Arizola focused her campaign on improving county services, increasing oversight of the Tarrant County jail, and investing in roads, transit and flood control to support community growth and safety.
Williams centered his campaign on cost of living, improving county services, and protecting the rights of citizens at commissioners court meetings.
