As much as things have changed with how we conduct elections over the past century, it’s remarkable how much hasn’t changed.

The long lines on election day. The excitement and anticipation after polls close. The celebrations, and of course, the painful defeats.

The Star-Telegram has been covering elections for longer than anyone in Fort Worth has been alive. Here’s a look back at some of the most memorable moments (and a few fun ones, too) captured by our staff photographers.

Aug. 21, 1958: “The Fort Worth Junior Chamber of Commerce came forth with a potent appeal for a good turnout of voters in Saturday’s Democratic primary runoff. Barbara Moore, 24, secretary in the Jaycees office was elected at ‘Miss Don’t Forge to Vote.’”
