FRIDAY UPDATE: Voting spiked Thursday in anticipation of severe storms.
Nearly 340,000 Tarrant County residents cast their ballots as of Friday morning. There’s one day of early voting left in the midterm election, but turnout may be lower than past days because of the severe storms expected. In anticipation, voting spiked on Thursday, with more than 40,000 ballots cast.
During the last midterm election in 2018, 432,756 people in Tarrant County cast an early vote. Turnout in that election was record-breaking, according to census.gov. Midterm elections generally draw a smaller turnout than presidential election years. This year’s turnout, however, is nearly double the 186,649 in the 2014 midterm election.
In the 2020 presidential election, 666,505 Tarrant County residents voted early. In 2016, 480,964 early voters turned out. This year’s turnout is closest to presidential election numbers from a decade ago. Early voting in the 2012 presidential election drew 387,335 voters.
