Cary Moon ousts incumbent Danny Scarth for Fort Worth City Council
One of Fort Worth’s longest-serving City Council members was unseated in Saturday’s election, with incumbent Danny Scarth losing to challenger Cary Moon by a substantial margin.
Moon, a developer and president of the Heritage Homeowners Association, had 60 percent of the vote for District 4. Scarth, executive director of Hope Media and seeking his sixth term, had 40 percent, according to complete but unofficial results released late Saturday.
“Obviously folks in District 4 liked our message, that we need better representation, smarter development and better city services given the taxes we pay,” Moon said, adding that he will work for “positive impact” at City Hall.
Scarth said he was disappointed in the results.
“I think it is a result of several things, one of them is redistricting drastically changed my district. There is now a very large contingent of people in far north Fort Worth that would like to have a representative from someone who lives in their neighborhood,” Scarth said.
Councilman Sal Espino, also seeking his sixth term, barely held out against challenger and retired firefighter Steven Thornton for the District 2 seat. Espino, an attorney, had 50.6 percent of the vote compared with Thornton’s 49.4 percent in complete but unofficial results.
Bob Willoughby, running against Councilwoman Gyna Bivens for District 5, had 14 percent of the vote, compared with Bivens’ 86 percent, with all precincts reporting.
Councilman Dennis Shingleton, seeking his third term in District 7, had 79 percent of the vote compared with Andy Gallagher’s 21 percent, with all precincts reporting.
Councilwoman Kelly Allen Gray, seeking her third term, had 78 percent of the vote, compared with Sharon Mason-Ford’s 22 percent, with all precincts reporting.
