Despite multiple calls from public commenters to meet more often, Tarrant County commissioners opted Tuesday to continue meeting once a month. They also decided to remove Cesar Chavez Day as a paid employee holiday for the first time in 15 years. Instead, employees will have Veterans Day off on Nov. 11.

Technically, the county did not celebrate Cesar Chavez Day this year after a New York Times article outed the Latino labor activist as an alleged sexual abuser. The county was closed on March 31, but it was labeled an employee holiday after the news was released.

In the revised holiday calendar, which passed unanimously without discussion, Tarrant County employees will still have 13 holidays. Democratic Commissioner Alisa Simmons was not present for the meeting due to personal reasons.

In August 2025, the commissioners decided to cut their twice monthly meetings to only once a month. Before, the commissioners met four times a month.

Public commenters have continuously called for the court to meet more often since the vote was made in August. They contend there is too much to cover in one meeting.
