President Donald Trump congratulates Ken Paxton on Senate runoff win
President Donald Trump congratulated Ken Paxton on his primary runoff win for U.S. Senate on Truth Social on Wednesday morning.
Trump also congratulated Sen. John Cornyn for his 24-year-long Senate career, and said that he would remain Cornyn’s friend as they both watch Paxton become a “fantastic, common sense Senator” who is “respected by all.”
Candidates who were endorsed by Trump won overwhelmingly in the primaries. In April, prior to Trump’s last-minute endorsement of Paxton on May 19, Paxton was polling 8 percentage points ahead of Cornyn.
In Trump’s social media post, he called James Talarico the “worst TEXAS candidate” he had ever seen. He also referred to Talarico as Alfred E. Neuman, the famous Mad magazine character. In 2020, Trump also referred to Pete Buttigieg, then presidential candidate as Neuman in an interview with Politico.
Trump called Talarico weak on crime, insulting to Jesus Christ, a big mask wearer, and a vegan who dislikes meat. He also claimed that Talarico believes there are six genders and will never support the military.
He added that Jasmine Crockett, who he called a “low IQ individual” would have been a “far better choice for the Dumocrats.” Crockett lost to Talarico in the Democratic primary by about 5 percentage points.
“I will do some nice, big, beautiful rallies for Ken. Texas, this will be FUN! GOD BLESS AMERICA,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
