Following Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s likely victory in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate, Democratic nominee James Talarico released his first general election video, where he called Paxton “the most corrupt politician in America.”

The video cites Paxton’s impeachment over misconduct allegations including bribery and abuse of office. Wednesday will mark three years since his impeachment.

“That kind of corruption is the rot at the core of this broken system. It’s why we can’t afford anything. It’s why we can’t get ahead no matter how hard we work,” Talarico said in the video. “For 50 years, mega-donors and their puppet politicians like Ken Paxton have stolen from us.”

Talarico urged Texans to come together to raise pay, cut taxes and lower costs.

Earlier on election day, Talarico did an interview with TheMeidasTouch Podcast to deny claims that he was a vegan, a narrative emphasized by President Donald Trump, who said vegans cannot get elected in Texas.

“I’ve been eating barbecue since before Ken Paxton’s first indictment. And if all they have on me is lying about me being a vegan, I feel pretty good about our chances this November,” Talarico said.

Talarico took to X following the Republican runoff to thank Cornyn for his time in the Senate and told Cornyn’s supporters that they have a place in his campaign.

“We don’t agree on everything, but we both still believe in public service,” Talarico wrote.
